About Therapy
Many people experience psychological difficulties (e.g., anxiety, depression, loss, etc.) which interfere with their day-to-day functioning or enjoyment of life. Unfortunately, although effective treatments are available for these difficulties, many people suffer without seeking assistance. Some may feel apprehensive about making an appointment with a therapist, others feel that no one will understand their problem or that they will wait for it to resolve on it's own. However, if a difficulty persists for a long time or interferes with your normal activities (prevents you from doing what you want or need to do), you may benefit from therapy (in addition to any medication or physical treatment you may be receiving).
In general, I believe that it is important to gain some understanding or insight into a difficulty and I actively facilitate this during therapy. In addition, I believe it is very important to develop some specific identifiable actions and goals in order to experiment with changing your behaviours, thoughts and feelings. By setting goals you are able to determine if therapy is being effective.
My training and experience include the following areas:
- brief cognitive-behavioural therapy (CBT)
- marital and family therapy
